One of the calligraphy demonstrations during "Kalligraphia season" was taught by Christie Payne, who introduced the art of creating "modern medieval" decorated versals. These versals are the ornamental capital letters you might see in an 11th or 12th century manuscript. But I think they're still relevant today.
